SO...How can you help at home?

Cook with your child! Cooking, especially if following a recipe, involves measurement, fractions, timing, and sequencing. Let your child guide the choice of project and whip up some delicious(math)ness!

Let them use a watch--the analog kind. Most children love the novelty of wearing a watch, and it gives them easy access to practicing time-telling. You can also help develop concepts of time by talking about timing as you plan family events or adventures, figuring out how long things will take (or how much time you have to get somewhere), and helping kids make a schedule for themselves that they can keep track of in a fun way.

Practice, practice, practice. Your child will get lots of practice with multiplication and division facts in class, and you can support this at home, too. But you might be better served by focusing on those basic addition and subtraction facts, which still don't come easily to most third graders. Flash cards, board games, card games, and apps (see links below) can all offer some practice that is more fun than a worksheet!
